Sensitizing health professionals

Opferhilfe beider Basel makes healthcare professionals aware of the requirements for victim protection. And sensitizes people to the needs of those affected by violence.

Healthcare professionals have a responsible role to play in protecting victims. They look after, care for or examine people affected by violence. It is therefore important that they are able to respond appropriately to the needs of people affected by violence, which requires the necessary knowledge. This is why the Istanbul Convention focuses on raising awareness and training healthcare workers.

Good examples should set a precedent

The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) supports the Confederation in implementing this important international convention, which aims to prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence. Specifically, the FOPH wants to publicize models of good practice in the healthcare system and in the training of healthcare professionals.

Opferhilfe beider Basel is becoming increasingly involved in the health sector. In the last few months alone, our advisors have been involved as speakers at various events.

March 29 and May 15, 2023: Presentation of victim support services in collaboration with the BL Domestic Violence Intervention Center at Baselland Cantonal Hospital (Liestal and Bruderholz emergency teams)

June 13, 2023: Two workshops at the CareArt Congress Basel 23 of the University Hospital Basel on the topic “Recognizing, addressing and empowering people affected by violence”

June 22/23, 2023: Two modules on the topic “How can victims find help?” at the KHM General Practitioners’ Congress in Lucerne

In close contact with those affected

We are happy to support other companies and institutions in the healthcare sector in making their employees aware of the concerns and requirements of victim protection. Thanks to their close contact with people affected by violence, our experts know their needs and requirements in detail.
