Singing against violence against people with (and without) disabilities

The prevention campaign “16 days against violence against women” focuses on people with disabilities in 2025. Opferhilfe beider Basel and the Musik für alle school have recorded a song with young people with disabilities. To raise awareness of violence against particularly vulnerable people.

Loud, rocking, full of passion and with depth – that’s what “Stopp, hani gseit!” sounds like. The young people with disabilities who appear in the song know from their own experience what they are singing about: They are victims of violence far more often than people without disabilities.

Being able to say stop in the face of abuse is not easy – especially not for people who live in relationships of dependency and power. With a view to the Prevention Days on November 25, 2025, Opferhilfe beider Basel and the “Musik für alle” school therefore began working on a song in the summer that encourages people to draw boundaries.

Using music to combat violence in everyday life
Babette Wackernagel Batcho, head teacher of Music for All, says of the project: “Our school supports children and young people with disabilities in becoming musically active. Our band immediately agreed to create, rehearse, record and perform a song together. It is very important to us to make a contribution against violence against people with disabilities.”

Hearing the voice of those affected

Beat John, Head of Victim Support in beider Basel, assesses the importance of the campaign as follows: “Violence against people with disabilities is still not taken seriously enough. The song empowers the people concerned to set boundaries. And their voice and their clear message to us all is heard, and in a very touching, lively way.”

Singing along is encouraged
The video clip and a karaoke version are available on YouTube. Stickers matching the song are available for young and old. The song is also suitable for school classes, leisure organizations and many more. Singing along is encouraged!
